Los Angeles to Indy…
Hello music friends!
So much going on these days it’s been hard to take a breath and update my website. My really good news is that at the five month mark I just recouped my recording/production costs for the new album Yonder. This is a big deal for an indie guy like me that doesn’t do much/any tour support and of course I don’t have a record label, manager, publicist etc. Many many thanks to the folks who pre-bought my album and continue to buy and download my music now. And many thanks to the radio people in Europe and the US who have been spinning the new disc and spreading the word. It’s so very much appreciated and I’ll try to not wait so long to create some new sounds. If you haven’t got my new album yet, you can buy Yonder here via CD Baby. I have used CD Baby for secure online sales since 1998. The digital download version of Yonder is also available now at iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody etc. if that’s more your digital mp3 style.
My new Yonder songs have also just been added to the Black Toast Music publishing library so I’m hopeful that the TV/FILM slot machine here in Los Angeles will continue to help get my new/old music out into the world. On that front, my song “Brand New Bag” was used in the feature film Sex and the USA. It just showed up on my ASCAP cue sheets so I guess it’s finally out now somewhere. No idea how many rotten tomatoes this film gets:) My songs are also showing up this quarter in: When I Was 17, Jerseylicious, Eco Trip, True Blood, Cold Case, Travel Channel, Pretty Wild, Table for 12, One Love and Flipping Out.
Speaking of Los Angeles…I guess my biggest news is that I will be moving to Indianapolis in June/July. Again following my wife Karen’s new medical gig to better opportunities. Hard to believe I have lived here almost four years! Guess that’s long enough and I sure don’t feel there’s anything left for me to see or do in LA. Just did a newspaper interview with Madison based Isthmus and I was reminded that LA was really just a gig for my wife…never in a million years did I think that I would live here. I’ll post more on my Los Angeles thoughts before I move back to the Midwest…I’m still processing it all right now.
Been traveling a lot lately! I have a Western bucket list and every weekend I have been taking off to see something new out here. Mexico was last week and in a couple hours I’m heading up to Santa Barbara to hang with some old friends, play some songs, and see some wineries. Life is moving at sonic speed these days…will be good to slow down again soon in the sensible center part of the country. Gotta sell our house and pack up for the move so I’m guessing I will be a busy bee the next couple months with stops in Cleveland, Boston, Denver and the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains.
What else…I have converted my facebook profile to a musician/band page which seems to have simplified and connected my social networking world. You should really “like” my facebook page below for my real time silliness…I can’t see your fb pages now but I still love you! Also been having fun with Instagram photos and if you do twitter I’m @pardekooper. I tweet very rarely but do like to argue with the sportscasters I follow:)
That’s all I got for now. Will try and post soon on my feelings about time spent in Los Angeles….KP

“Kelly’s new album Yonder is some of the best Americana folk-country-blues-rock-roll-soul-rumble I’ve heard in a while” - No Depression
“Pardekooper is so laid back as to be almost horizontal, J.J. Cale comes to mind here.” - Blabber n’ Smoke
“The characters in his songs are ones we know - the punker coming to grips with age, the ticking timebomb drunkard relative, the lost-lover.” - Little Village
“If anything relocation to Los Angeles has helped crystallize and focus the singer/songwriters Eastern Iowa imagery. Graced by Bo Ramsey’s bell toned guitar, the opening gem ‘Where I Come From’ (we don’t walk too proud, we don’t talk too loud…when we talk at all) is a heart-touching paean to Midwestern values” – Iowa City Press Citizen
