Lyrics

Main Street

Every little town has a Main Street. And all the little towns are blowing away. And all these big cities got their Mean Streets. And all these cities make you pay.

I can’t remember when I let go. All I know is I let go. ‘Cause I can’t do it for the money. I’m not pretty, I’m not funny. I just rage on hour to hour, day to day. And “Come What May” is what you’ll say when they betray me. “Come What May”, a silly phrase like “You Sleigh Me”.

And every little town has a Main Street. And all the little towns are blowing away. And all these big cities got their Mean Streets. And all these cities make you pay.

I’m not some farmer in your city. Or another fake hillbilly. Sponsored by your local NPR committee. To bring some authenticity to your cement reality. Chain store lovin’ high speed connectivity. And “Come What May” is what they’ll say when you betray me. “Come What May”, a silly phrase like “You Sleigh Me”.

But every little town has a Main Street. And all the little towns are blowing away. And all these big cities got their Mean Streets. And all these cities make you pay.
